Minutes of the Meeting of the Jury

of the 6th Krzysztof Penderecki International Competition

for Young Composers

The meeting of the Jury of the 6th Krzysztof Penderecki International Competition for Young Composers was held on the 15th of February 2023.

34 scores from 12 countries (China, the Czech Republic, France, Japan, South Korea, Germany, Peru, Poland, Slovakia, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Italy) were submitted to the Competition. 8 of them were rejected as they were against regulations.

The Jury consisted of: Marcel Chyrzyński (Chairman), Zbigniew Bargielski, Ivan Buffa (Slovakia), Federico Gardella (Italy) and Wojciech Widłak. The Secretary of the Competition was Aleksandra Patalas.

The Jury, after examining 26 scores, decided to award the Main Prize – 1,000 USD – to the composition titled:

Earnendel for 7 Instruments (emblem: CM1004)

Moreover, the Jury decided to grant 3 honourable distinctions to the compositions titled:

Star Atlas I – the Big Dipper No.5 – ‘Lian Zhen’ (emblem: ()

Meteor Sink Into The Sea (emblem: D.)

Dance of Water (emblem:  )

When the envelopes had been opened, it appeared that the winner of the Main Prize is Junghoon Nam from South Korea.

The winners of the honourable distinctions Meng Sicong from China (emblem: (), Lixing Ding from China/Germany (emblem: D.) and Xiaowen Lei from China (emblem:  ).

The official reading of the protocol and the premiere of the composition granted the Main Prize will take place on the 15th of April 2023, during the concert within the 35th Kraków International Festival of Composers.

The subject of the competition was a piece for flute, clarinet, violin, viola and cello.
